Interesting title, Scott. What the heck is that all about?
Well, it’s about what I have decided to do with regards to these blog posts I release each Friday and the videos I record and release each Wednesday.
I have decided to stop doing them for a while.
While I enjoy doing both of them, they both require a devotion of a decent amount of my time each week.
Although the actual recording and writing might not take a ton of time, it’s the preparation, reviewing, editing, and then finally releasing it in such a way that I feel is professional enough for the world to see that takes up a lot of my time.
And this fall, I have various projects that I need to devote a whole lot more time to.
“What projects?”
Glad you asked!
First, I don’t know if I mentioned this before, but I have been hired to be the boys’ varsity head basketball coach at the high school here in my town. Therefore, as any of you head coaches of any sport know, I will be spending A LOT of time on that, and I am really excited to do so!
Second, as most of you know, I launched my SlamDunk Significance program earlier this summer as a way to try to help bring coach, athlete, and parent education to schools, teams, and leagues that struggle to pay for that kind of professional development. However, it is in its most infant stage right now, so I need to devote a lot more time to getting that up and running and helping as many kids have great athletic experiences as possible.
Third, I have devoted a lot less time to writing books over the last couple of years than I have in a long time, and I miss it. I want to get back to writing the kinds of books that I enjoy writing. I started book three in the Remington Roberts series a couple of years ago, and I haven’t touched it in over a year, so I’m looking forward to getting back to that one. I am also planning on turning my books into audiobooks. I have been taking a class on how to do that myself, and I am near the end of that class and am getting excited about starting to record my first audiobook this fall or winter.
Fourth, I am writing a column for one of the newspapers in my town. While the paper only comes out twice a month, the types of things I write for it are similar to what I write in my blog posts, so I will still have the outlet of writing in that type of format.
Finally, I am working on a couple of different new presentations to add to my speaking repertoire. One is in the coach/athletic world and one is in the teaching world. I also have some businesses that are interested in having me speak to their teams, so I need to review and work on my presentations for businesses that I do.
So due to all of those factors (and probably a few others I’m not thinking of right now), I will be pausing my weekly writing of these blog posts, as well as my weekly videos.
That does not mean I will never write a post or record a video again. It just means that at this time, I will be putting my energy and effort elsewhere.
But I will still write an occasional post or shoot an occasional video as certain situations or topics present themselves that I think would be important to cover with you.
I will continue to release my Great Quotes for Coaches podcast episodes each Monday.
I am also looking at doing another podcast about my basketball season and team, but shhhh… don’t tell anyone yet, as A) that is a surprise, and B) I’m not 100% sure it’s going to happen. But if it does, I will let you know.
I will still send out my newsletter each week, but I will probably send that out on Monday to alert you about the podcast episode. I am also considering some tweaks to the newsletter to make it a little more interactive with the people who receive it. And I will also send out the newsletter to alert you to anything new that I am releasing or that I think you should hear about.
If you are not currently subscribed to the newsletter, you should definitely get subscribed to it. Go to the right side of this Blog page on SlamDunkSuccess.com, and sign up where you see my book, Your Coaching Philosophy displayed. You will get on the newsletter list and be able to download a free copy of that eBook.
Thanks to all of you who have followed me and read my posts through the years. I really appreciate you and all you have done to help make these a success.
As always, if I can help you out in any way, don’t hesitate to reach out to me at scott@slamdunksuccess.com.
